Mānuka Honey Grading
Mānuka honey is graded through the measurement of methylglyoxal found in the honey by an accredited laboratory. Oha Honey uses both MGO and MGS standards of measurement depending on which country you are purchasing our honey in.
The MGO rating system is simply the level of methylglyocal (MGO), a naturally occurring sugar molecule, in a jar of Mānuka honey. The Molan Gold Standard™ (MGS) was developed and named after scientist Dr. Peter Molan, who is acknowledged as one of the world’s leading authorities on the qualities of Mānuka honey. The Molan Gold Standard™ grading system has been approved by the Ministry for Primary Industries of New Zealand and meets legislative requirements. It appraises the natural marker methylglyoxal (MGO) level found in Mānuka honey, and assures purity and quality.
We use MGS™ to give our customers full confidence that what they are purchasing has an accurate, scientifically conducted measurement of the claimed methylglyoxal content. All Oha Mānuka honey is rigorously tested for this methylglyoxal content and certified by an accredited New Zealand laboratory under the ISO17025 standard. A lab certificate for any batch of Oha Mānuka honey is available upon request.
